Day 11 Cape May, NJ to Delaware Bay

In just 11 days I have learned more than I ever thought possible.  This day I learned that the ‘flexible’ part of my self-defined ‘flexible vegan’ life style includes killing a massive amount of biting flies.  Admittedly, with an embarrassing amount of fury.  I also learned how to completely dismantle a macerating boat toilet and put it back together.  Lastly, anchors don’t always hold tight and some nights will be spent entirely watching the anchor alert app on John’s phone.

I imagine this heat wave is melting my land friends as much as it is melting us.  The boat is very quiet compared to the jovial days 1-10 when the heat and the  flies were more bearable.  Now we are quieter and kinder and moving slower as we try to respect each other’s boundaries.  The fans are cranking and thankfully the screens I DIY’d are working to keep most of the flies at bay.

Taking off for more sheltered space will help as Delaware Bay is likely one of the most difficult spots to land at any time.  The wind and currents fight and the boat rocks and bangs and the anchor doesn’t quite get its teeth in.  Delaware Bay will help us appreciate the finer days and landing spots and for that we should be grateful.  Maybe tomorrow we will be.

    1. I remember that story! You saved the day! We are headed to a more sheltered space for tonight and will catch up on sleep. Maybe close up and run the a/c. Play some ‘May I’ Eat too many twizzlers.
