Day 10 Cape May another day

We stayed in Cape May yesterday as there was a big storm about 25 miles out that would have made the ride pretty awful and we are a good weather crew only.  The day was spent with all of us doing our individual tasks of working, cleaning the boat and doing one more load of laundry for the road.  Of course, also personal and more enjoyable things such as sitting by the pool and reading for Carrie and I and 2 hours at the gym for Michael. John doesn’t ever have time for pleasantries- it is all boat work all the time for him!

On a weird side note, I am someone who gets land sickness.  It’s not a ‘sick to my stomach’ thing, its a ‘the ground keeps moving’ thing.  I walk like a drunken sailor unless I really focus on my steps.  It’s like walking on trampolines blindfolded.  Taking a shower is the most treacherous.  Your slippery with soap, standing in an unfamiliar shower, and it feels like someone is pulling the mat from under your flip-flopped feet every time you close your eyes!

I’m thinking about all this while walking back from the marina bathrooms, focusing on my steps, when I see Michael at the end of the pier doing jumping jacks!  The guy is right next to the water jumping around.  Its good though, because McGills have more energy than salmon in the spring and living with that level of life force in 200 square feet with John and I can’t be easy!

One way to make boat life easier:  When someone complains to you about a situation they find themselves in and they are over 50 do not offer solutions.  For instance, if your sister finds dirty clothes that did not make it into yesterday’s laundry, don’t advise her on how to rectify the problem.  Also, do not say “Do you want a solution or did you just want to complain?” because that is also unhelpful.  Instead, if this occasion arises for anything, whether it be dirty clothing discovered after laundry day or a sunburn or a stubbed toe: just respond “oh, that’s a bummer”.  That is entirely less obnoxious.  Just a little advice from one obnoxious person to anyone who needs to hear it :)

  4. You’re not wrong about the McGills having tons of energy! Though the salmon analogy I’ve never heard of. Lol. I’m loving these.

Day who knows Charleston, SC

We have now biked to the big bridge twice. It is 12 miles round trip along the water and through downtown. I am used to the East Coast Green...
