Day 6 Atlantic Highlands to Atlantic City, NJ

We woke at 4am raring to go.  If we were going to try to make it to Atlantic City it would be an all day affair. Unfortunately and fortunately we had somehow drained all electricity and had to charge up with generator before we could take off.  This took about an hour to make happen so we were out of the gate at 5:15 instead of our original plan of 4:15.

The fortunate part came a few hours later when we realized we had somehow squeezed between the storm behind us and the passing storm in front of us.  My mom and uncle Bill must have had their hand in our fortunes as they were both sailors and must have guided our mishap to keep us in the clear.

The day was gorgeous again and as we passed the New Jersey Shore where I spent my childhood summer vacations we waved at my Aunt Karen’s home along the beach. A while after that I took my turn sailing and it was so incredibly peaceful.  I am a talker, an extrovert, a little much; but when I’m sailing this beautiful boat down the coast I am quiet, my mind is quiet, I am at peace.

At the end of my turn at the wheel we were even greeted by dolphins swimming past us and then circling around with us.  You have all these ideas about what a trip like this would be but you don’t dare put all of your hopes into it.  You don't truly believe the YouTubers and podcasters because maybe something this awesome is too good to be true.  But what if it’s not?

We finally arrived around 10:30.  It was very dark with the moon and all the city lights causing distraction. It was also a little scary as we had seen waves breaking far into the ocean from shallow waters and heavy tides. Fortunately, Michael is familiar with this city and knew that it doesn't sleep.  He got a harbor master that guided us and then offered to let us stay on his dock fuel station for the night so we wouldn't have to find anchor.  There are good people everywhere and we were exhausted and grateful.

We have now biked to the big bridge twice. It is 12 miles round trip along the water and through downtown. I am used to the East Coast Green...
