John, our hero, got the boat a/c cranking last night and as I wrote my post the laundry was done, dishes were clean, and I was sitting in the living space that was 73 degrees. We all slept like babies in the cool air after a long day of sweating and blasting horns.
Today we woke early and headed out by 7am to ride the tide through the C&D Canal ending on the Chesapeake Bay. This bay has so many stops we really don’t even know where to land! We are all pretty excited as most loopers rave about the fun places to stop. Anything is better than the past two days so regardless, we will be happy.
Side note: Loopers are people who do the Inter Coastal Waterway (ICW) in its entirety. We hope to be loopers someday :)
The wind is strong today and unfortunately it is going the wrong way but also, it feels awesome. Carrie has her wireless waterproof speakers wailing out 80’s ballads and John is at the wheel with an ice cold beer. “Dancing queen” is playing and I know all of the words and the dance steps play in my mind only because the boat is too unsteady for these heavy moves.
I don’t really care if my dancing looks like Elaine from Seinfeld, but I am a lot more careful with my body parts than I once was. Carrie is still wild but I have a lot more screws and rods and cages and cadaver parts in this body than most. It would be a good excuse to shy away from every activity but then I wouldn't be out here on this wild ride.
Our niece is back home watching our animals and managing the house and she sends us videos of her experiences. She sings to our sheep to keep her from bleating endlessly, she runs with her dog through the yard, she dances around the dogs as she manages their fancy meals, and she nuzzles the goats who already adore her. These videos make me smile and remind me that without the singing and dancing things would be so dull. So in my terrible voice I sing the words loudly and in my mind I dance.
